Zoox has signed a new lease that significantly increases its operational footprint in a Bay Area city, more than doubling the space it controls there. The autonomous vehicle company already leases two properties near the newly acquired site, according to the details of the deal.
The expansion signals continued growth for the Amazon-owned robotaxi developer as it pushes toward commercial service. Zoox has been testing its purpose-built vehicles, which lack a steering wheel and pedals, on public roads in California and Nevada. The company operates a dedicated facility in the region where it houses vehicles, testing equipment, and engineering teams.
The new lease adds substantial square footage to Zoox's real estate holdings in the city, though exact terms were not disclosed. The two existing properties nearby give the company a cluster of facilities that could support manufacturing, maintenance, and research operations.
Zoox, founded in 2014, was acquired by Amazon in 2020. The company has been steadily building out its infrastructure as it prepares to launch a paid ride-hailing service. Regulatory approvals remain a key hurdle, but the real estate moves suggest Zoox is laying the groundwork for larger-scale operations in the coming years.
