People on the Move 8.21.26

Several organizations in the housing finance and legal fields have announced key leadership changes and new appointments this week, reflecting a broader trend of strategic hiring as firms position themselves for the coming quarters.

Gorman & Co., a national real estate development firm known for its focus on mixed-income and affordable housing, has added two senior figures to its team. The company brought on a new vice president of development to oversee projects in the Northeast corridor, a role that will involve managing entitlement processes and financing structures. Gorman & Co. has hired a project manager with a background in historic rehabilitation, signaling continued interest in adaptive reuse projects.

Housing Trust Silicon Valley, a prominent community development financial institution, has also made a notable move. The organization named a new chief lending officer, a veteran of community development banking who previously spent over a decade at a major West Coast financial institution. In this role, the new officer will be responsible for expanding the trust's loan products aimed at preserving affordable housing and supporting first-time homebuyers in the high-cost Bay Area market.

In the legal sector, the national law firm Akerman LLP has strengthened its real estate practice group with the addition of a partner in its New York office. The incoming partner brings extensive experience in commercial leasing and land use, particularly for large-scale mixed-use developments. This hire is seen as a direct response to increased client demand for guidance on zoning incentives and sustainability requirements in urban redevelopment.

These moves come at a time when the housing industry is navigating higher interest rates and shifting local regulations. The new leadership is expected to bring fresh approaches to capital stacking and community engagement. All three organizations confirmed the appointments are effective immediately, with the new hires already beginning to integrate into their respective teams.
