A Haverford resident reported losing $3,000 after falling victim to a real estate scam that played out on Facebook. According to police, the victim was contacted through the social media platform by someone posing as a contractor. The exchange eventually moved to Cash App, where the victim turned over payment and personal information before realizing the offer was fraudulent. Investigators say the case highlights a growing pattern of scammers using social media marketplaces and payment apps to target homeowners looking for renovation work.
In a separate incident, a porch pirate was captured on a home security camera making off with a package, but not before the footage gave police a clear look at the getaway vehicle's license plate. Authorities say the plate number has been logged and the investigation is ongoing. Neighbors in the area are being reminded to watch for unfamiliar vehicles and to report suspicious activity.
Police also responded to reports of graffiti at Merwood Park. Officers documented the vandalism and are asking anyone who noticed unusual activity near the park to come forward.
Residents are encouraged to verify contractors through official channels, avoid sending money through peer to peer payment apps to strangers, and keep an eye on deliveries. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Haverford police.
