A new analysis from Pied Piper reveals that real estate brokerages are struggling to connect with potential clients, responding to just one-third of phone inquiries and 32 percent of web leads within a 24 hour window. The findings suggest a significant gap between the volume of interest generated and the ability of firms to convert that interest into actual conversations.
The study tracked inbound communications across a range of brokerages and measured how quickly agents followed up with prospects. According to the data, roughly two-thirds of all incoming leads never received a timely response. Phone calls fared slightly better than digital form submissions, but the overall picture points to a systemic problem rather than an isolated one.
Industry observers note that speed matters in real estate, where buyers and sellers often contact multiple agents at once. A delayed reply can push a prospect toward a competitor who answers first. The report also highlights that many firms lack a clear process for routing and tracking leads, which can cause messages to sit unanswered for hours or even days.
Some brokerages have started investing in automated follow up tools and dedicated lead managers to close the gap. Whether those efforts will move the needle remains to be seen. For now, the numbers suggest that a large share of potential business is slipping through the cracks before a conversation even begins.
